New 2016 Survey Shows These 3 Factors Have the Biggest Impact on Your Google Maps Ranking

A new study looked at 30,000 businesses and 100+ factors to find out how local businesses can rank better. Some of the results are surprising!

1. Number and Quality of Links to Your Website

The factors that are critical for your website to rank well in organic search are now critical to making your business rank better on Google Maps!

The number of links your website receives and the quality of those links are THE most important factors in the ranking of your Google My Business page.

Action step: Start building links to your website! Check out our article last month on how to build links to your website.

2. Number of Words and Keyword Usage on Your Website

Not only does this help determine your website’s ranking in organic search, it’s not also critical to your ranking on Google maps!

Do your pages have more than a couple hundred words?

Are your pages properly optimized for your most important keywords?

If you answered ‘no’ to either of these questions then your ranking on both regular google search and google maps is suffering because of it.

Action step: Research the keywords your customers are using to find businesses like yours online and ensure your pages are properly optimized for them. Need help with this? Ask Chris!

3. Completeness of Your Google My Business Profile

Have you verified ownership of your Google My Business profile? Does your profile include photos, hours of operations and reviews? If not, take a moment today to complete your profile as best you can. It only takes a few minutes and the results will more than pay for themselves!

Action step: Login to Google My Business and fill out as much of your profile as you can, upload photos, fill in your hours of operation and start reminding your customers to leave a review if they’re happy with your service.

There’s More You Can Do!

The original study has a wealth of recommendations beyond these three above. If you’re serious about your website’s ranking in both google search and google maps, take a few months to check it out.
